Witness app (www.witnessphoneapp.com) - For the first time worried drivers can feel safe in the knowledge that any incident or accident is recorded using just their smartphone handset. The app costs only 69p, and uses technology already built into the iPhone. Users simply put their phone into a holder mounted on the car windscreen, press play, and leave Witness to record their journey. Between 1990 and 2010, the amount of miles being driven by British drivers has increased by over 20%1. Increasing numbers of cars on the road means traffic incidents are a part of life, and over 95% of road traffic accidents are caused by driver behaviour, but it is rare that independent witnesses can provide evidence to insurers2. The claims process can therefore be complicated and frustrating.
Evidence and proof of responsibility is essential, and drivers can now record and email this evidence directly from their iPhone. If a crash occurs or an impact is detected, Witness will automatically save the recent recorded video. The footage can then be saved on the iPhone and also sent directly to a chosen email destination for safe keeping.
Insurers can get accurate information about an accident without expensive video cameras, GPS sensors and accelerometers, helping reduce premiums and improve peace of mind. All this technology is available on the iPhone and built into the Witness app.
